Milestones & Project Tasks

Large construction projects cannot be managed as a flat to-do list. In Planmaster, work is organized into a clean 2-level hierarchy: Milestones (major project stages) and Tasks (actionable daily work items).

What is a Milestone?

A Milestone represents a critical stage or billing milestone in your contract—such as Substructure Completion, Ground Floor Slab Pour, or Plumbing Rough-ins.

Milestones help you track overall schedule adherence and contractual deliverables. Each milestone contains its own set of daily tasks, and its progress bar automatically updates as tasks are completed.

How to Create a Milestone (Step-by-Step)

  1. Open your project from the Projects directory.
  2. Click the Milestones tab near the top of the page.
  3. Click the blue Add Milestone button.
  4. The milestone dialog will open:
  5. Name: Enter the phase name (e.g., Substructure & Foundation Works).
  6. Planned Start Date & Time: Choose the target start date using the date-time picker.
  7. Planned End Date & Time: Choose the target completion date using the date-time picker.
  8. Description: Add notes regarding engineering specifications, inspection requirements, or quality criteria.
  9. Click Create Milestone.

Date-Time Format Tip

Planmaster uses precise date and time tracking for milestones. When setting planned dates, pick both the date and time from the popup calendar, or leave them empty if dates are not yet finalized.

Adding Tasks Inside a Milestone

Once your milestone is created, you break it down into daily site assignments:

  1. Click on the milestone name from the list to open its detailed page (/milestones/:id).
  2. Click Add Task (or click the + button inside the milestone card).
  3. Complete the task details:
  4. Title: Actionable description of the work (e.g., Site excavation and soil disposal).
  5. Assignee: Select the site engineer or supervisor responsible for execution.
  6. Status: Set to To Do or In Progress.
  7. Priority: Mark as Low, Medium, or High.
  8. Start Date & Due Date: The planned start and target completion dates.
  9. Click Create Task.

Your task is now linked directly under the milestone. Clicking the task opens the full Task Details Screen, where your team can log subtasks, timesheet work hours, and site blockers.
