Assigning Team Members

When you create a project in Planmaster, you can specify exactly which engineers, quantity surveyors, and managers have access to it. This keeps everyone's workspace clean and ensures team members only see the job sites they are actively working on.

The 3 Project Access Roles Explained Simply

When you assign a team member to a project, choose one of three access roles:

  1. Owner (owner)
  2. Best for: Project Directors, Senior Project Managers, or Site In-charges.
  3. What they can do: Full administrative authority over the project. They can add milestones, edit contract budgets, invite other engineers to the site, approve take-off quantities, and upload construction drawings.

  4. Editor (editor)

  5. Best for: Site Engineers, Field Supervisors, and Quantity Surveyors.
  6. What they can do: Day-to-day site management. They can submit Daily Progress Reports (DPRs), add daily tasks, log executed quantities in the BOQ, check off subtasks, and log blocker alerts. They cannot delete the project or alter the base contract budget.

  7. Viewer (viewer)

  8. Best for: Safety auditors, junior interns, structural consultants, or client representatives.
  9. What they can do: Read-only access. They can inspect project schedules, view drawings, review DPRs, and monitor completion percentages without making unintended changes.

How to Add Someone to a Project (Step-by-Step)

  1. Open your project from the Projects list.
  2. Click the Members tab near the top of the page.
  3. Click the Add member button.
  4. Select the colleague's name from the Person dropdown.
  5. Choose their project role from the Role dropdown: owner, editor, or viewer.
  6. Click Add.

The project will immediately appear on that employee's personal dashboard and project directory!

Changing a Role or Moving a Team Member to Another Site

  1. Open the project's Members tab.
  2. Locate their name in the member list, and click the Member actions button (⋮) on their row.
  3. Choose Make owner / Make editor / Make viewer to change their role, or Remove to take them off the project.
  4. Rest assured: All historical daily updates, task work logs, and comments submitted by that engineer remain permanently preserved with their name and timestamp intact.
